BIO

Valentin Alberton is a contemporary painter born in 1983 in Nogent-sur-Marne, living and working in Fontainebleau. He works primarily in egg tempera on wood.

In his paintings, Alberton draws enigmatic figures from an automatic gesture, rejecting all narrative in favour of an inquiry into the pictorial matter itself.

His practice revolves around the materiality of paint itself: entangled organic forms, close to bodies and flesh, emerge from an initially free and abstract gesture, which the artist then models with light until a figure reveals itself. These forms — at once unsettling and familiar — resist any fixed reading and invite pareidolia rather than imposing meaning. The discovery of egg tempera marked a decisive turning point in his work, opening up technical and plastic possibilities that gave rise to a series of paintings of a new coherence, situated on the border between the figurative and the abstract.

Valentin Alberton has presented a solo exhibition, C'est dans la tête, in Reims, as well as the exhibition Peintures automatiques at the LdeO&Co gallery. He is a laureate of the Trophée Boesner de la création, and has participated in the Grand Prix Bernard Magrez at the Institut Culturel Bernard Magrez in Bordeaux, and in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles at the Parc floral de Paris.
